Huntsman Cancer Institute Visits Texas Sigma Chi
Sigma Chi Parents’ Weekend is held once a semester here at Alpha Nu. It is a great opportunity for the brothers to visit with their parents and ensure them that they are alive and well. In addition, it provides a great opportunity for parents to be updated on the well being of the chapter, including our philanthropic endeavors. On April 10th at a Friday night dinner this parents weekend, Lori Kun, the Director of Development for Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), joined us and gave a presentation detailing the history of HCI, their partnership with Sigma Chi, and the contributions of the Alpha Nu Chapter. She accepted a check for over $60,000 from the chapter for funds raised from fall 2014’s Fight Night event.
Founded by Significant Sig and Order of Constantine Sig Jon M. Huntsman, Pennsylvania 1959, the Huntsman Cancer Institute provides cancer treatment and extensive cancer research. In 2005, Huntsman became the official philanthropy partner of the international Sigma Chi Fraternity. Alpha Nu has been committed to this partnership, working hard to put on successful philanthropy events, including Derby Days and Fight Night, the proceeds of which go to Huntsman Cancer Institute and other beneficiaries.
This is the second year in a row that Mrs. Kun has come to Parent’s Weekend to receive a donation check. During her presentation, Mrs. Kun hinted that Alpha Nu is on track to be the top-donating chapter to Huntsman in 2015, a great achievement. It was fitting to hear this at Parent’s Weekend, because it is the support of parents and alumni that help to make these honors possible.
